The Powerful Story is coming to Halifax

Earlier this year British Gas launched a national storytelling competition which gave children the opportunity to work with popular children’s author Ciaran Murtagh to create The Powerful Story – a new book exploring energy in the past, present and future! The competition may have ended but the good news is that we’re bringing the story to life at our interactive exhibition at Eureka! The National Children’s Museum in Halifax. From 25th October to 1st November, everyone’s invited to attend our fun-filled exhibition where we’ll be teaching children all about the exciting world of energy.

About Generation Green:

Generation Green is a practical and innovative education programme designed to help teachers, students and local communities save energy and educate the next generation about how everyone can reduce their impact on the environment. We hope that by teaching children about sustainability and future energy challenges, we can help to create a generation of energy innovators. To date, we’ve helped over 13,000 schools introduce sustainability and energy efficiency to the classroom.

Local businesses are invited to engineer a magical Science Festival

Posted on

Bradford Science Festival LogoPlans for the Bradford Science Festival ‘It’s a Kind of Magic’ 2013 are well underway.. with many of the events confirmed for the family, schools and adult programme. Whilst there are items still to be added to the schedule, Bradford Science Festival have decided to ‘go public’ with the first of the awareness raising events that will contribute to the anticipation for the Festival in October. In order to achieve the ambitious aims, detailed below,  as it is essential to build momentum early and encourage as much participation as possible…

The overarching aims of the Bradford Science Festival are:

  • To enthuse and inspire young people about science; to empower them as citizens, and to create the next generation of scientists and engineers.
  • To showcase the science and technology credentials of the region’s businesses
  • To identify areas of public interest and concern, where scientists can contribute to discussions for exchange of ideas and expertise.
  • To enhance public access to research and to stimulate discussion of scientific methods and results, their relevance, and the wider implications for society.
  • To break down the artificial barriers between arts and the science and encourage creativity and imagination in all disciplines.

This year Bradford Science Festival are hoping to shine the Festival Spotlight on local businesses with a series of exciting opportunities for schools, the community and businesses to interact culminating in a four day celebration of scientific creativity and achievement. Emphasis will be on practical science investigation and innovation with local and National challenges that encourage and embed the ‘golden thread of enterprise’.

These could include:

  • Business/schools rocket building challenge. Businesses pair up with a local school to build a water rocket. Grand final to be powered by the fabulous Thorite Rocket Launcher during the festival.
  • Green Machine Science Fair. Syndicates of businesses and schools work together to solve a real life business problem using sustainable power.
  • ‘We Made It!’ A National Competition to design and produce a marketable product which will enhance Bradford’s status as the ‘Producer City’.
  • ‘Science Faction’  A Pop Up Shop in the City Centre during the Festival that will allow the public to become more aware of the amazing STEM related industries and career opportunities that are available in Bradford and District.

Bradford Science Festival need your ideas, help and support to make these inspirational programmes happen and hope to work with you at every step of the way.

More details will be coming soon, however if you have any ideas or require more information please contact Helen Barraclough at Helen@spaceconnections.net or on 07753898830. To read more about Bradford Science Festival please visitwww.bradfordsciencefestival.co.uk
